JUAN GONZALEZ - TIFFIN UNIVERSITY- FC DALLAS
My name is Juan Gonzalez and I was placed in a mentorship program under Chip Kisabeth, Director of Ticket Sales at FC Dallas Major League Soccer. This website has been created to present my experience through a series of weekly journals and descriptive pages that will hopefully depict my time as an intern with FC Dallas. As of Fall 2013 I am in the last portion of completing an MBA in Sports Management. With only a mentorship remaining, I hope I can apply everything I've learned throughout the MBA-Sports Management Program, my undergrad in Marketing and through all my work experience thus far.
A little bit about my self, I am originally from Mercedes Texas, a small city in the Rio Grande Valley located in South Texas. I have always been enthused about sports and what goes into it. Growing up I was not introduced into sports until I was 11 or so. My family was not a sports family so I began liking it when it was offered in middle school. I was not the best athlete initially, but my willingness to learn a sport allowed me to play a variety of sports. In junior high I played football, basketball, cross country, soccer, and track. As I went into high school I narrowed it down to three sports: football, basketball, and track. I was a varsity athlete in all three sports and my one regret was never playing baseball, which is now my favorite sport. I graduated high school in 2005 and had intentions of pursuing to walk on to the Track Team at UTPA, the university I attended after high school. In the end it would have conflicted with other things I had going on that were of higher priority, so it never happened.
I attended UTPA, The University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg Texas and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and a Minor in Communications in December 2009. Right out of college I began working for Sherwin Williams in their Management Training Program and became an Operations Manager a year later and a Facility Manager a year and a half after that. In Spring 2012, two years into working with Sherwin Williams, I began the MBA-Sports Management Program at Tiffin University. Now 2 years later I am in the final phase of the program and will complete the program at the end of Fall 2013.
Depending on how things align with my current mentorship, I hope to get the opportunity to gain a full time position with FC Dallas. Knowing the popularity of Soccer throughout the world, I see the MLS and FC Dallas in a prime position to continue to succeed in every facet of the sport. So this is why I am very pleased to have been placed in this mentorship program with this organization. With the United States Men's National Team clinching a World Cup Spot for 2014, Soccer in the United States will only continue to increase in popularity, exposure and presence, as the years go by.
